Comment: On behalf of the Business Education Council of Niagara, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in making Take Our Kids to Work Day a great success!

The partnerships that are formed between the schools and the community greatly benefit Grade 9 students of both the District School Board of Niagara and the Niagara Catholic District School Board. The success of this program is due to the overwhelming response, co-operation, hard work and efforts of the school coordinators, teachers and employers who organized fun and informative activities. Thank you to the parents and host volunteers who spent the day with the students, showing them the realities of the workplace and various career options. The BEC would also like to thank Mountainview Properties and 105.7 EZ Rock for co-sponsoring this event and making it a success.

Sincerely,

Marisa Brown-Benson

Comment: I am writing this email to let you know that I did not appreciate how your reporter Craig Sebert took my idea for an article and a great deal of the words I used in it and placed his name on it and published it in your paper The St. Catharines Niagara News on Wednesday, August 9,2006 without bothering to document his primary resource.

I was outraged and disappointed when I realized that your reporter Mr. Sebert took my research and idea and claimed them as his own. It would have been far more ethical had your reporter at least documented the author who inspired the article he published. Had he noted the collabroation he might have avoided crossing that all too taboo line some writers cross when they steal another writers intellectual property.

As a scholar who spends a great deal of time researching I am well aware that Mr. Sebert's article and the quotes contained within it would be considered plagirism.

I would like you to know that I spent a great deal of time researching for that article and your reporter used my information-Mr. Edwards forwarded it to him prior to his interview with my sister Laurie Kirk-to interview my sister and support the information he published in the piece entitled "Preparing for the Walk" of which he spent 15 minutes interviewing his subject.

In closing, I feel it is very important that your reporters-specifially Mr. Sebert-do the ethical thing and give full credit to all of his sources.

Comment: Re: Edyta's comments ("I am deeply insulted with the way politicians who are gay or pro gay accuse everyone who does not agree with them of discrimination. I treat everyone with equal respect regardless of their creed or sexual orientation but at the same time I feel that my right to my own opinions is beeing taken away.
Why then do gay activists trample upon the convictions of other Canadians?")

Well said. That is a very good question and one which you will not have honestly answered by the group you are asking. There is a very vocal minority out there who do not want anyone who disagrees with them to have a voice. Tolerance now means "Agree with me or you're homophobic, but I don't have to agree with you or acknowledge your right to your own opinion."

It is easier to paint everyone with the same brush (calling everyone who disagrees 'homophobic') than it is to accept that there are equally valid, opposing opinions on the issue of gay marriage.

Comment: Today I read a front page story in Niagara News about the visit of liberal MP Scott Brison, during which he mentioned that "Harper is regressing Canadian Values..."
He also would like to be involved if same -sex marriage would come back to the table.
I am proud to be Canadian and must admit that my values are not in line with what Liberals call "Canadian Values". When I was preparing for the citizenship test, I was taught that every Canadian contributes to the Values of our Country. What I see around me is diversity. How Can then one political party decide for all of us what our values are? I am deeply insulted with the way politicians who are gay or pro gay accuse everyone who does not agree with them of discrimination. I treat everyone with equal respect regardless of their creed or sexual orientation but at the same time I feel that my right to my own opinions is beeing taken away.
Why then do gay activists trample upon the convictions of other Canadians?

Comment: I would like to touch on St. Catharines. I have lived here for 43 years and it has gone way down hill, in the way of jobs we have lost so many good paying jobs.St. Paul street from the days of shopping downtown with my parents and having lunch at Woolworths the streets were busy with people and now I would not let my dog go down there alone. Our roads are a mess, overall we need an overhaul.

Comment: Is St Catharines better or worse than 15 years ago? I have lived in St. Catharines for 2 years now and I feel I have been here all my life, I love the terrain, trees and the people, apart from a few setbacks, I wish I had moved here sooner.

Comment: We The People

When will the Liberal corruption cease...when that Big Government power machine is finally thrust over the minority government precipice where it now hovers...to a deservedly abysmal defeat.

The Liberal government can now be made responsible for their constant deceit and injustice in front of those they have long forgotten, the Canadian citizens, the Canadian taxpayers, the Canadian voters. We the people, hire! We the people, fire! You are fired Mr. Martin. You are hired Mr. Harper.

A strong Conservative affirmation, at the poles, will cleanse the putrid political atmosphere from years of Liberal control.

Opinion - Wednesday, November 23, 2005 @ 13:00

For crying out loud, all I needed was your opinion

The biggest favor you can do when approaching a woman or anyone or addressing anyone is to:

1) make eye contact
2) approach with caution
3) respect not everyone is lucky enough to not have been touched by the crimes of today, whether this be an assault of any nature.

Remember, there are so many warnings for people, that they will do what they can to keep all for-warned to keep their distance; Or plainly, just keep your distance from whom you wish to speak with.

Not too many people will allow you into there space/life. It’s not your looks or clothing they are revoking; It is the mere fact that crimes are committed against woman and if you are not known to them, you will be ousted. This may sound inexcuseable to yourself but put yourself in that womans place.

I believe you were cut off before you even had a chance. These days you must prove you are not a threat being a man. Sorry, but that is life and her life in the world of which we live. She didn’t make that peticular situation taste sour to you, society dictates this and it is this that is sad. If there is to be change, it would take a miracle for a woman of any age to feel safe today with every day news columns out warning of this or that predator. Your not special, your only human. I’m sure if you had approached in her sight and kept a 2/3 ft distance, then explained your reason for wanting her attention, you would have been accepted in some small manor. But don’t expect any man/woman or child to not be on the defensive and don’t take it personal.

Good luck on your next interview.

Comment: I nominate Justin Allcock as the Athlete of the Week. He has been involved in nearly every sport offered, and in grade 12, every sport he played (excluding golf) he won MVP for. Not to mention that he also won the Athlete of the Year award and a service award at his graduation for his major sustained contributions in the area of Athletics. Justin Allcock is the captain of the senior boys volleyball team (as he was last year) and was also the captain of the basketball team. He has won MVP of two entire tournaments in 2005 (one at Niagara college and one in New Market). He intends to pursue teaching physical education in the future and is currently participating in a co-op to further this dream, he voluntarily assists with the coaching of the team his father Jake coaches and also voluntarily referees volleyball games on occasion. He is a role model for the athletes in grades below him and also for the members of his team, as he exhibits excellent sportsmanship and leadership.

Comment: Don’t you believe for those which will not move from Louisiana to save or restart their lives regarding the residents of this state are not acting in the best interest of preserving life?

If not for their children or relatives which love them dearly needed Rita to show them it is not safe to come home and time to pick up and rebuild where you must. It wouldn’t be forever, just for the safety of loved ones and upbringing of your family at this moment.

This was and is an emotionally, stressfully and psycological tragedy to come to your front doors. But Katrina and Rita did just that.

Hurricane Katrina hit, marking a strong mother nature message. When those which would not and understandable leave their homes and quite possibly for most of their lives lived in this State;

Mother Nature sends another message through Rita.

Hurricane Rita came back to give a violent message for the people which would not leave or accept the life saving efforts offered and to take heed to the generosity of those willing to help you start over in times of desperate need.

I believe, Mother Nature was destined to return and has spoken in the only way possible.

Both hurricanes and all hurricanes do not read signs or waite for your readiness.

They are an act of God, and sent one heck of an impact statement. Kuwait can wait with the billions which are being used to place it where your motherland is in desparate need.

Mr. Bush, make NOTE of Kuwait situation regarding your priorities. Militaries use and influence in keeping another COUNTRY in PEACE must take secondary presidence of the land which you serve as a President for the People!

Mr. Bush, You must take head regarding the efforts of this disaster and know ALL resources are best needed in the country which you serve as the Peoples President and placed your promises upon .

In this time of hell when all hands are needed for search and rescue efforts and rebuilding. It portrays a time of unbelievable chaos wich has covered the people/taxpayer’s with a blanket of fear and their own lives unknown of life beyond this historical nightmare.

So many lost, in the passing and missplaced search for loved ones. Many are grasping for an ear to listen to their concerns and cries.

Locating even one to ease a mother or father; brother or sister;aunt or uncle and even a freind, emotions of their worst fears of losing what’s most prescious, and that is life.

I praise the long and tiresome efforts to face the exponged below sea level city in diar need.

The Military, Volunteers, Doctors, Nurses, Health Aids and many more unknown working around the clock to preserve life.

1) to keep safe from injury, harm, or destruction : PROTECT
2) to keep alive, intact, or free from decay b : MAINTAIN
3) to keep or save from decomposition
4) to keep up and reserve for personal or special use

Be strong, their are many people out there willing to counsel and help you in rebuilding of your life. There is hope when no hope can be seen through the vast unexpected devastation.

God be with you all.
